Community Partners

Create Caribbean’s Community Partners Programme is an initiative launched in 2022 to support local and regional organisations working on themes related to our priority areas – the arts and cultural heritage preservation, education and youth development, STEM and/or climate and the environment.

Partners receive support and mentorship from both Create Caribbean and the larger Caribbean Digital Scholarship Collective to help meet their needs, achieve their goals, increase their platforms, and expose them to more funding opportunities. This is a funded program to cover meals, transportation (if necessary) and resources for the full-time days spent in the program. Details will be provided upon acceptance into the program.

2024 Summer Intensive Training

The Summer Intensive Training is a 60-hour intensive workshop designed to introduce digital humanities tools and methods to community organizations and public agencies. The sessions are scheduled over two weeks each summer. This year’s SIT will run from May 13 to 24 2024. The training will be held in Dominica at the University of the West Indies Open Campus and online via Zoom.

In 2022, the first SIT introduced tools for mapping, creating timelines, basic coding, and applications of augmented reality. Participants also explored 3-D modeling and design, web publishing, and minimal computing. The 2024 SIT is now open to organizations across the Caribbean region.

If a member from your organisation is selected to receive applied training in digital tools and methods for community development, they will be expected to share the information and skills with the rest of their team. A stipend is available for in-person and virtual participants. Please note that the cost of catered meals and snacks will be deducted from the stipend package for participants in Dominica.

Groups working in the arts and cultural heritage, education and youth development, STEM and/or climate and the environment are strongly encouraged to apply! Applications and recommendations will be accepted until April 26, 2024. Spaces are extremely limited – only one member of an organization will be chosen to take part.

We will not claim credit or ownership over any work you produce during our partnership. Please contact us at info@createcaribbean.org or (767) 448-0015 for the full terms of agreement. Incomplete applications will not be considered. A complete recommendation form is also required for each applicant.

Frequently Asked Questions

The SIT is aimed at team members who would benefit from introductions to the digital tools and interactive examples of how they may be used by their organization.

Prior experience is not necessary as each session and the accompanying exercises will cover the basics. Create Caribbean team members will also be available to answer questions, troubleshoot issues, and ensure that everyone is progressing through the activities.

While participants may be familiar with some of the tools due to the nature of their work (usually web publishing or ArcGIS for example), the other platforms and tools may be completely new to them (SketchUP, Zapper, Knight Lab Timeline, minimal computing, etc). Some background is helpful as a starting point for the digital project but definitely not required.

Yes, you may bring your own meals if you prefer. However please note that the catering deduction cannot be refunded to participants.

Depending on the topic and progress through the syllabus, we will have some half day workshops. Though the sessions will not run for the full day every single day, you may be expected to continue working independently on half days. The final day will also be a half day for presentations and closing remarks.

We recommend requesting time to participate. Let us know if you will need a letter or other official document from Create Caribbean to share with your employer.

You should bring a laptop computer and charger, and mobile device to all sessions.

All course content will be available on our Moodle platform so that participants can revisit the material after the workshops.
