How This All Started

by Jernel Peter

“I have to go out with Create today”, almost an everyday message from my friend in our WhatsApp group chat. The constant mention of the words ‘Create’ ‘Create Caribbean’ and ‘Dr. Esprit’ made me curious about knowing more about the Institution. Realizing my interest in the group, my friend invited me to join, however I was a bit sceptical.

During the summer I was given the opportunity to be more acquainted with the group when I was asked to participate in the data collection and entry of the Small Business Research Database project. At that time, I got to know who the great “Dr. Esprit” was and also who the interns of Create were, most being my schoolmates.

After this experience with the Create Family, I decided to do the digital humanities course at the Dominica State College together with 2 friends who were already interns. My 2 main reasons for doing this course were:

  1. To improve my knowledge of research methods and technology
  2. I was attracted to Dr. Esprit’s professionalism yet youth friendly personality

What a great decision I made! I got to love Dr. Esprit and technology even more. Create Caribbean became my highest ranking group/organization/area on campus.

As a present member of Create Caribbean, I expect to gain research experience and also enhance my basic skills such as time management, productiveness, working within deadlines, being innovative, responsible & flexible. I also intend on enhancing my graphic skills and become more familiar with new technologies.

In relation to my contribution at this institution, I would like to offer my  graphic designing skills as well as help promote healthy habits among members of the group. Also, participating in projects and being ready to help in any area I am needed.
